Routeways into Work

Advancing the youth of North and North East London into sustained employment.

5E Ltd works in partnership with Barnet College to deliver the Routeways into Work project. This programme is designed for unemployed people aged between 18-24 and offers pre-employment support based on employers requirements. These last up to 8 weeks, with an aim of moving individuals into existing vacancies.

Who can join the programme?

Jobcentre Plus customers* aged 18 to 24 who have been unemployed, are claiming Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) for 6 months and/or approaching 12 months of unemployment and are residents of the London Borough of Barnet.

*Intake via a Job Centre referral only.

How does it benefit me?

Gain sector specific skills through tailored training courses that are demanded by local employers. Attain advice and support that will boost your job-hunting activities and guidance to attend interviews for existing vacancies sourced by 5E Ltd.

What help will I receive?

There are a range of skills interventions tailored to the needs of the individual that are embedded within the skills training package. It is recognised that not all of these will be needed in each case:

  • Training Needs Analysis and Individual Learning Plan;
  • Embedded IAG and learner support to include the mandatory offering of a Skills Account.
  • Skills for Life diagnostics (including ICT) and delivery of appropriate training;
  • Employment training based on Sector Employability Toolkits developed by SSCs tailored to employers needs.
  • Vocationally related training in ICT Engineering, customer, retail, services etc. tailored to the needs of the learners.

As a Routeways into Work learner you will receive:

  • Information, advice and guidance, including skills diagnostics and assessment services
  • Signposting/referral to specialist provision
  • Job search skills
  • Short employment related course linked to Sector Skills Council recommendations
  • Customised ESOL relevant to specific Sector and occupational areas
  • Work trials or work placements
  • Guaranteed interviews or employment opportunities
  • Post recruitment bespoke training to meet needs of employer e.g. embedded ‘soft’ employment skills and support
  • Post employment mentoring and coaching
  • Strategies to promote  progression into employment where there is further support through Train to Gain

What sectors does the training cover?

At 5E Ltd we cover a number of occupational areas in the 4 nationally targeted priority sectors listed below:

1)    Retail

2)    Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism

3)    Facilities Management

4)    Security

How long does the programme last?

Training programmes will last between 2 to 8 weeks at a minimum of 15 hours per week, depending on the level of needs and number of interventions required. Please speak to one of our advisors on our ‘Advice and Help’ line to discuss your needs.

This [rogramme is run from Barnet and Enfield - you can study in any centre that suits you.

Do I have to pay?

No, this is a FREE course fully funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and European Social Fund (ESF) for unemployed Job Centre Plus clients aged between 18 to 24 years.
