Initiative to derive maximum economic, employment and sporting benefits from the Olympics to tackle worklessness in the North London Boroughs of Haringey and Barnet.
North London Pledge is a fully funded Welfare to Work programme offering training to residents of Haringey, Enfield and Barnet Boroughs in North London. NLP2 (North London Pledge 2) is funded by the London Development Agency (LDA) to tackle worklessness by enabling residents to receive training and employment opportunities arising from the Olympics 2012.
The North London Pledge will provide an integrated and coherent approach to involving employers and tackling worklessness. The programme is designed primarily for women, ethnic minorities and disabled people who are on long-term (6 months or more) Job Seekers Allowance and also for Incapacity Benefits Claimants.

Who can join the programme?
People who are aged 16 and over who have the right to work in the UK, are unemployed or economically inactive for at least 6 months and are resident in either the London Borough of Haringey, Enfield or Barnet.
Priority groups include:
- lone parents (eligible regardless of unemployment length)
- long-term IB claimaints
- long-term JSA claimants
- Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities (BAME) groups
- people with a disability or health problem
- women
- elder people
How does it benefit me?
Gain confidence and skills that are required by the local employers. You will have a greater hold in combatting the long term unemployment with skills that are matched with job profiles and practical knowledge on returning back to employment. Gain practical work experience with local employers that bridge the gaps in your CV. In addition, you will have the chance to brush up your IT skills and have access to the internet for job search facilities.

We will help, train and support you, and given your full attendance and commitment we hope you can achieve:

- Job search and assistance in completing job applications including interviews
- Job search that suits your vocational interests
- Arranging job interviews with local employers
- A quick transition into a job….or the skills and confidence to continue looking for work on your own

- Organised structured work placements to gain experience
- Support to manage health conditions and disabilities in the workplace:
- Skills and confidence that will impress employers e.g. IT
How long does the programme last?
The North London Pledge offers intensive employment training for up to 15 weeks with a minimum of 10 hours a week. We find that people involved on this programme increase their job prospects and their confidence.
