Also known as ECDL Part Two or BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users, ECDL Extra is the second of three stages leading to a full ECDL qualification – the other two stages are ECDL Essentials and ECDL Advanced. The ECDL certificate is a globally recognised ICT and digital literacy certification.
According to ECDL (European Computer Driving License) Foundation – the non-profit organisation that provides the qualification – the ECDL certification is recognised and supported by governments, computer societies, international organisations and commercial corporations.

Course Content
The course is made up of three parts:
1. In the first part, you will follow five Learndirect courses
- Word Processing
- Spreadsheets
- Database
- Presentation
- Using IT
2. In the second section of the course, you’ll learn more about the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) and
the British Computer Society (BCS), which administers and awards it in the UK. You then take a “skill check” to see
whether you have built the IT skills and knowledge you need to pass the assessment and to identify any areas
that need more practice.
3. The final part of the course contains the four ECDL Module Tests, Modules 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the BCS Unit E test
which you need to pass to be awarded the ECDL Part Two and the BCS Level 2 Certificate for IT Users.
