5E comes out top in Volunteers Week

Recent LDA (London Development Agency) figures showed that of all ‘Personal Best’ providers in this area, 5E comes out top, getting the most people engaged, and the highest numbers back into work. 5E encourages volunteering as an excellent way to regain confidence in the workplace, to learn new skills or improve old ones, and to gain valuable experience for a more impressive CV.

The results were announced during Volunteers’ Week, June 2009, a yearly celebration, endorsed by the Home Office, of the hard work of the millions of people across the UK and beyond who regularly contribute their time, energy and skills to society. See www.volunteersweek.org.uk for more information.

Participants in 5E’s ‘Personal Best’ programme get assistance with finding a voluntary work placement, gain training in skills such as how to deal with the public and what to do in an emergency, and have a lot of fun whilst they do it. They also receive a Level 1 qualification in Volunteering (NQF), and a nationally recognised ‘Personal Best’ certificate.

5E supports volunteers by reimbursing travel expenses and providing luncheon vouchers. Compared to other providers we have more experience with the programme. From 2006-2008 we ran two pilot phases of the programme for the Borough of Haringey, and are currently delivering a two-year programme for Barnet from our Colindale centre.

Why is 5E such a successful provider? “We work differently from other providers” says programme leader James, “We have a high level of pastoral care and we provide training in other soft skills for free. This helps people get the most out of the programme. 5E has a lot of experience in helping people into work, so we’re well suited to the job!”
