Train to Gain is the name for a FREE* national scheme designed to help businesses improve their services, employees’ skills and productivity. It intends to give all employed people the chance to gain at least a Level 2 qualification in core sector skills, qualifications, and basic literacy and numeracy.
Train to Gain was piloted between 2002 and 2005 under the name ‘Employer Training Pilot Scheme,’ in which over 27,000 employers benefited from the help they received from expert trainers and over 90 per cent said they were ‘more than satisfied’ with the improvements made. Re-named ‘Train to Gain’, the scheme has been going from strength to strength ever since.
*Funding is subject to eligibility criteria specified by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
Train to Gain can save your business money! The scheme is about assessing what individual companies and staff need and helping them find the right kind of training in order to become more efficient. You will also find your staff becoming more motivated as they gain confidence in their abilities, which will improve the professionalism of your company.
A recent survey carried out by the LSC (Learning Skills Council) revealed that 7,000 adults in England lacked basic numeracy and literacy skills up to NVQ Level 2 and estimated that this costs businesses around £10 billion a year. By investing in your employees’ skills and qualifications your business will be in a better position to creatively and cost-effectively stay ahead of the competition.
We assess your individual needs – as a business and a group of individuals. We then offer Level 2 and 3 NVQ qualifications specific to your business needs, and other training that individual staff members may require, such as additional basic literacy and numeracy, or advanced IT qualifications such as New CLAiT and CLAiT Plus. All training and assessment is offered at your preferred time and place.

The scheme is mainly aimed at small to medium sized businesses – no business is considered too small to qualify. A small percentage of large organisations can also apply. If in doubt, please contact us at 5E Ltd for advice.
Are there any compensation packages offered for when staff are absent from work while on training?
For those with a staff of number less than fifty, who would find the absence of any staff on training a costly expense, there are good compensation packages offered.
Any business can apply – particularly small to medium sized ones – for help and guidance in the scheme, for example, those in customer services, travel and tourism, health and social care and retail and administration.
At 5E Ltd we will initially assess the skills your business and staff needs, identify the most rewarding training, present you with a jointly agreed tailor-made package that would bring the greatest benefit, recommend the best route for any funding that may be required and review the progress of your company.
