Assessor and Verifier Training

The Assessor and Verifier Award are essential for anyone who carries out assessment and verification of individuals for national certification. These courses will enable candidates to be effective and competent assessors. This qualification will add immensely to the professional standing of those wanting to develop their careers in this field.

Who is the course for?
Competent practitioners of practical based subjects who wish to obtain the relevant, current, up to date qualification, which enables them to make judgements against evidence presented to them for assessment against subject performance criteria.

Certificate Overview

  • A1 – Assess candidates using a range of methods
  • A1.1 Develop plans for assessing competence with candidates
  • A1.2 – Judge evidence against criteria to make assessment decisions
  • A1.3 – Provide feedback and support to candidates
  • A1.4 – Contribute to the internal quality assurance process

What do I need?
It is recommended that candidates hold a level 3 qualification in their specialist subject and have been a competent practitioner for a minimum of 3 years.

What will I study?
How to formulate assessment plans, make judgements against performance criteria, give feedback to candidates and contribute to the internal verification system within their own subject area.


What will I gain?
City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 A1 Assessor Award

What can this lead to?
Potential to assess within a workplace/training organisations/FE colleges assessing NVQ’s
This qualification is a pre-requisite to the Level 4 Internal Verifier (V1) award

Continuous assessment with the formulation of a portfolio of evidence

Additional Information
It is a requirement that the assessor-candidate should have access to NVQ or equivalent candidates, and be able to show participation towards the internal verification system within the adopted training organisation. Delivery will consist of a series of input sessions, workshops and individual tutorials.

Who is the course for?
Centre managers or systems managers who monitor assessment practice

What do I need?
Subject competency within the monitoring area and it is recommended that candidates hold the A1 Assessor Award

Certification

  • Unit V1 – Conduct internal quality assurance of the assessment process
  • V1.1 – Carry out and evalutate internal assessment and quality assurance systems
  • V1.2 – Support assessors
  • V1.3 – Monitor the quality of assessors’ performance
  • V1.4 – Meet external quality assurance requirements

What will I study?
How to support, guide and monitor assessors and their assessment practice within the workplace environment, training organisation or FE college.

What will I gain?
City & Guilds NVQ Level 4 (V1) Internal Verifier qualification

Where will this lead?
Successful candidates will be able to explore the boundaries of IV practice and may be able to progress their knowledge by acting as external examiners for awarding bodies.

Methods of assessment
Continuous assessment leading towards compilation of portfolio. The delivery of the programme will consist of a series of input sessions and workshops, these will be followed by tutorials with a support tutor.

Additional Information
Internal verifier-candidate will be expected to be in a position of monitoring assessment practice, and have access to all centre/programme area documentation.

To be in a position of liaison with external verifier and awarding bodies.
